New! Caron One Pound, Caron Simply Soft and Herrschners 2-Ply Afghan palettes - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!

New!  The Herrschner's Worsted Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!

New!  We've just added the palette for Deborah Norville Everyday Yarn!  If you knit and/or crochet, this is for you.  This is a beautiful yarn with a nice feel to it, a good alternative in worsted weight acrylic!  (Thank you again to BetwixtTheStitch!)

New!  The Red Heart Super Saver Palette - thank you to BetwixtTheStitch!

Welcome to Stitchboard!  Feel free to sit and stay awhile.  Check out our new Premier features.  In addition to the ability to create larger patterns (up to 500 stitches wide), illusion knitting and private labeling (no more worries about editing those pesky and messy PDFs), we've just introduced Filet Crochet, our most popular request!  We have many more features planned, too!  Laughing

Hello new community friends! I just wanted to post here to say wow, I am lucky to have stumbled on such a great website! I just love this place. As the title says, I am just here to say my hellos to you all. My craft that I have recently been exploring is beading, currently looking into a project using peyote stitch.  I learned a long long time ago from my grandmother and as life happens, I am now having to remember those lessons and am learining along the way. If anyone has some suggestions for a not necessarily new newbie, I would appreciate suggestions and tips and tricks.

Queenphalange,
Welcome! Smile
Although I've seen beginners start with large, complex projects, my first instinct is always to have people start with smaller ones. As a beginner, you want to learn how to read the pattern and handle your project. I feel that an advanced project may not get you the earlier steps you need for learning. I'm not saying you should hold off forever, but perhaps trying a simple kit or two would be helpful before starting something much larger.
I do think your idea of a SpiderMan cross stitch is wonderful, so perhaps you could still plan it out while working a smaller kit first? Kiss
You also have a lovely day or night! Kiss

It will give you a color graph, so each box is an X stitch in the appropriate color. Don't try to do half crosses and the like, it doesn't work as well.
I actually have a lot of tips:
Add a few stitches on either side as your first and last stitch are useless.
I have done a picture tutorial on how to cross stitch on tunisian.
In this picture I show how to go into the stitches just under the vertical bars to hide your tails.
Place your needle just under those stitches, splitting the tail to lock it in place.
This shows exactly how to place your needle, by doing it this way the back will be clean. Like this, sometimes you'll go a bit too deep and have a tad show through, but nobody is perfect.
If you're more of a video person, one of my friends made a video after I taught her how, you can find it here:

Hi, and welcome!

When you say some colors are off, do you mean wrong shades?  Or is it introducing gray when it shouldn't be there?  The gray issue will be fixed in the next version of software and usually only happens when an image doesn't have black or white.  Again, this will be fixed soon.

You may also manually select colors in section 5b and see if that helps.

Let me know a bit more and I'll try to help.

Terry

Line,

LOL, perhaps this site isn't exactly child-friendly...for very unusual reasons!  SurprisedWink

Seriously, just a thought...you could crochet a basic solid-color blanket and do the design in cross stitching.  It wouldn't look exactly the same, but it would still look nice.  Smile
